Renal Research Institute Expands Global Research Capabilities

Since its inception, the Renal Research Institute (RRI) has been built on collaboration, bringing together cross-disciplinary teams with a shared purpose: translating scientific research into clinical practice.

RRI is now expanding its capabilities by bringing clinical research, real-world evidence, data science and analytics, computational medicine, epidemiology, biostatistics, laboratory sciences, translational science, artificial intelligence, and on-site translation together within one integrated global organization.

With researchers, clinicians, data scientists, laboratory experts, and operational leaders working across multiple countries and continents, the expanded RRI organization is designed to strengthen collaboration across the evidence-generation and translational research process.

“We are excited that RRI is now positioned to bring together the full spectrum of evidence generation, from clinical research and real-world evidence to data analytics, computational medicine, artificial intelligence, laboratory science, and translational research,” says Len Usvyat, Head of the Renal Research Institute. “Integrating these capabilities within a single organization will help us collaborate more effectively with colleagues and academic partners around the world.”

RRI’s capabilities in data analytics, computational medicine, and artificial intelligence are enhanced by its clinical laboratory in New York. The laboratory team includes experts in clinical laboratory science, biochemistry, molecular biology, biomedical engineering, molecular diagnostics, and genetics.

Working with RRI’s on-site translation team, these experts evaluate new technologies, biomarkers, therapies, analytical methods, and AI-enabled solutions in clinical settings. This connection between research and practice allows RRI teams to study, refine, and assess emerging approaches throughout the translational research cycle.

“We have always worked at the intersection of clinical data, machine data, laboratory science, and real-world practice,” Usvyat says. “Our expanded role is a natural evolution of that work. By bringing these capabilities together, RRI can support research from the earliest scientific concept through evaluation in clinical practice.” 

Through this expanded structure, RRI will continue advancing research through global collaboration and scientific expertise, with a focus on generating evidence that can inform patient care.
