Rasha Hussein

Rasha received her MBBS from the faculty of medicine, university of Sciences and Technology, Khartoum Sudan. After she completed her internship, she joined a pediatric nephrology team at Soba University Hospital, University of Khartoum, Sudan, and started her scientific career. She received MD in Pediatrics and Child Health from Sudan Medical Specialization Board (SMSB). She received also a scholarship that supported her during the entire course of her master's (2013-2015) and Ph.D. (2021- present) in Health Sciences at the School of Medicine, Pontifícia Universidade Catolica do Parana (PUCPR), Curitiba, Brazil. She has also completed her International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD) and International Society of Nephrology (ISN) fellowships in Brazil.  During her tenure as a mentee of Dr. Peter Kotanko, as part of the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) Mentorship Program, she has not only honed her research skills but has also developed a keen understanding of the broader global implications of her work. She joined Renal Research Institute as a scientist in residence (SIR), where she learned how to conduct research in the US which allowed her to engage with diverse perspectives and cutting-edge research methodologies. She has experience in scientific writing and presentation of research outcomes. She has been selected for the ISN-Emerging Leader program this year (2024-2026).

Rasha is enthusiastic, responsible and has shown great leadership abilities during Sudan's current crisis which has badly affected the renal community. She also has a tremendous capacity for independent work and a desire to better the lives of others.

She is currently a Research Scientist at the Translational Clinical Research in the Renal Research Institute and a member of MONitoring Dialysis Outcome (MONDO) esteeming committee.

Rasha’s has a plan to promote a renal registry in resource-limited settings, trying to fill a gap in kidney care map systems, especially with the shortage of qualified and trained nephrologists.

Outside of work, she likes reading, traveling, photographer and exploring the power of nature.
